My son loves history, and besides the school curriculum, he is constantly studying books about world civilizations. He also loves visiting the places he reads about in books. Thanks to him, I now always know where to go for our next vacation. I checked our list of interesting places and saw Constantinople, now Istanbul, with its "horse" square. It is now called Sultanahmet Square. It has an ancient and intriguing history, just like the nearby Blue Mosque. I want my son to see another historical site with his own eyes: I decided to find hotels that offer a view of Sultanahmet Square. The image galleries and prices get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on September 27, 2024.

Alzer Hotel is compactly located in a small building with flower pots in the windows. It seems to be squeezed between two houses on the street, and it's no wonder, as space in such proximity to the attraction needs to be saved - Sultanahmet Square literally peeks into the windows of this hotel.

Views from the hotel

The Sultanahmet Square is visible from everywhere here. In the "Suite" room, the columns of Constantine – tall stone obelisks – can be seen directly from the windows.

From the relaxation area on the roof, you can spot the square from a bird's eye view, and from the terrace in front of the hotel, you can see streams of tourists heading out for a stroll in Sultanahmet.

Location

The hotel is located on the same street as Sultanahmet Square – and that says it all. Here you can hear the heartbeat of Istanbul, immerse yourself in its history, and enjoy its movement, just by stepping out of your room.

Dining

The rooftop terrace is used for serving breakfasts, delicious lunches, and dinners with a view of the sunset over Istanbul. In the café in front of the hotel, you can order snacks and enjoy your favorite drink. If we choose this hotel, we will definitely admire the view of the square from both the restaurant and the café.

Disadvantages

Here, authenticity borders on old age: many rooms have long been "tired," but they have retained the atmosphere of true Turkey.

Advantages

The hotel is located right at Sultanahmet Square, and the breakfasts included in the room rates are served on the terrace with a view of it.

A small stylish hotel that adheres to traditional Turkish style in its interiors. The rooms have cozy wooden floors covered with local carpets. And they are beautiful!

Views from the hotel

On the hotel rooftop, there is a terrace with wicker furniture where one can sink in, enjoying the surrounding panoramas. From here, the Blue Mosque and the square nearby are clearly visible, and right next to it stands the Obelisk of Theodosius, located on Sultanahmet.

Hotel Rooms

Standard rooms of 16 square meters are available for guests. They feature very pleasant interiors and several windows, making them appear more spacious.

The "Deluxe" rooms are more spacious and include compact balconies.

Location

The hotel is located opposite the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, near Sultanahmet Square and the Blue Mosque. A walk around the hotel will introduce you to many of Istanbul's landmarks. The Basilica Cistern is just 650 meters away, and the Theodosian Cistern is on the next street.

Dining

The breakfast here is delicious – tourists who have stayed at the hotel assure. It can be eaten in the breakfast hall or on the rooftop terrace - I am sure it will be even better here!

Drawbacks

The rooms, as well as the bathrooms, are quite small here. But such a minor detail won’t bother us, as we will only be coming to the room to sleep.

Advantages

Although the rooms are small, they are very cozy, with many details that create a special atmosphere. A wonderful location in the very center of the city.

The hotel is like a grandmother's trunk, that's how I would describe it. In the rooms, there is an atmosphere of the 1930s-1950s. The hotel is filled with numerous antique items, from furniture to vintage dishes that decorate the spaces.

Views from the hotel

The view of Sultanahmet Square is available from all hotel rooms. By the way, each of them is special and has its own design. Some rooms have small balconies where nothing will obstruct the view of the historic square.

A wonderful view also awaits from the hotel terrace. Breakfast is served here, and you can greet the new day while enjoying the magnificent panorama. I am sure my son will give me a historical tour during breakfast.

Dining

In the breakfast hall, you can feel as if you are a guest at a Turkish grandmother's house! In addition to the usual items found in any hotel, they serve homemade muffins and pancakes.

Location

The narrow street where this hotel is located leads straight to the Blue Mosque. Exiting the entrance, you will find yourself near it in just a couple of minutes. The historic Sokullu Mehmed Pasha Mosque is located 300 meters away. The tram number 1, a famous route that will take you to all the city's attractions, stops 6 minutes from the hotel.

Disadvantages

Not all guests were immersed in the historical atmosphere of the hotel and considered the antique furniture to be old. Some noted that the hotel needs repairs – the antique parquet creaks.

Advantages

Some of the best views from the rooms – most guests praise them. The only thing I would like to note is that I think it’s worth choosing the upper floors for beautiful views.

From the tables located right on the pavement by the hotel's restaurant, there is a wonderful view of Sultanahmet Square. Life is bustling around you while you are on vacation, sipping a cup of Turkish coffee while sitting here.

Views from the hotel

Breakfasts with a view of Sultanahmet Square – that's what my history-loving child dreamed of. On the top floor of the hotel, such breakfasts are served, and the panoramic glazing allows you to enjoy the views in any weather.

The family room also offers a view of the square.

Hotel Rooms

If you want to observe Sultanahmet Square all day long, choose a family room. And if it’s enough for you to enjoy it during breakfast, you can look for another view. The hotel has "Economy" rooms with an area of 16 square meters, as well as standard rooms - 20 square meters. Family rooms are more spacious.

Dining

Breakfast is included in the price, and there are mixed reviews about it: some find it insufficient, while others feel it fully meets their needs. However, with a view like this, one can forgive many shortcomings in the breakfast.

Location

On a tourist street, among a multitude of attractions and small restaurants. The Blue Mosque is literally across the street, and you can reach Hagia Sophia in about 8 minutes. If you wish to visit the Grand Bazaar, you will walk to it in 10 minutes through picturesque streets.

Disadvantages

Some guests were not satisfied that music could be heard from the street in the evenings, which prevented them from falling asleep. However, being in the center of a tourist city like Istanbul, it is difficult to expect complete silence.

Advantages

Guests praise the hotel's location, cleanliness, and attentive staff.

The hotel in an ancient Turkish style with wooden exterior finishing greets guests with authentic interiors in the common areas. The interior decor of the rooms resembles classic European rooms and allows the eye to rest after exploring the sights.

Views from the hotel

Guests say that the views from the hotel terrace overlooking Sultanahmet Square make it possible to overlook its shortcomings. Many do so – the hotel has excellent reviews. On the terrace, under the gentle sun of Istanbul, one can endlessly watch the square with tourists bustling about. In the distance, the sea can be seen, and life is good.

Hotel Rooms

Guests are offered both standard rooms with views of the city or courtyard, as well as Double and Twin rooms with balconies facing the Bosphorus, where seagulls fly above the white caps of waves.

Location

There is no need to choose which attractions to visit – just step out of the hotel and walk ahead. You will definitely encounter the Blue Mosque – it’s just a couple of minutes away. Next, we will stroll to the Basilica Cistern – it’s an 8-minute walk. And then we will see Hagia Sophia – it will take a bit less than 10 minutes to get there.

Dining

The breakfast included in the price is served on the terrace with a view of Sultanahmet and the Bosphorus. There are made-to-order items, as well as a buffet. Guests speak highly of the dishes, but consider the selection small – it does not change from day to day.

Disadvantages

You need to choose rooms more carefully – the hotel has some without windows, they are cheaper, and this is indicated in the description when booking. Guests have complained that such rooms are small and stuffy.

Advantages

The hotel is located deep in the alley, so guests are not disturbed by street noise. All attractions can be reached in a couple of minutes.
